Jacob’s journey was one of desperation and regret. Having deceived his brother Esau and stolen his blessing, he was now fleeing for his life, alone in the wilderness with nothing but a stone for a pillow. In that moment of brokenness, God met him with a powerful vision—a ladder stretching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending, and a promise of blessing.
Though Jacob’s past was filled with selfishness and deceit, God didn’t turn His back on him. Instead, He reaffirmed His covenant and assured Jacob that He would be with him, guiding and blessing him on his journey. In that moment, Jacob’s heart changed. He made a vow to live differently, to honor God, and to give back a portion of what he had been blessed with.
This story reminds us that no matter how far we’ve gone down the wrong path, God is always ready to meet us where we are, offer forgiveness, and lead us to a life of generosity and purpose.
