Jesus entered the temple courtyard to find it in chaos, with merchants selling animals for sacrifice and money changers conducting business. This disturbed Him deeply, as it was a far cry from the reverence intended for God’s house. In contrast to the original temple’s peaceful construction, Jesus used a whip to drive out the sellers, declaring that the temple should be a house of prayer, not a den of thieves. His actions emphasized the importance of purity and respect for God’s house. This event echoed the prophecy of Daniel, who had foreseen a time when the temple would be defiled and God’s truth distorted, but the Lord would return to cleanse it.
